Year In Review 2009
|
Throughout 2009, the successes, challenges, and well wishes of our classmates were shared through class notes and quarterly email blasts. Please be sure to let us know what is happening in your life and whether or not your class officers and fellow classmates can assist in any way. Send updates to either me (debidell@earthlink.net) or John Carrico (new email: jdc2@ccsbcpa.com) . And, if you have pictures to share on the class web site, please send them to Frank Fransioli (dulac76@gmail.com). 2009 in the Rearview Mirror
April: at Alumni Senate, our class activities and Web site were both recognized as best practices. If you are planning to attend Senate this year, please be sure to let me know so we can try and get classmates together during the Press Box event. You can add your comments here:
These events were very successful in bringing together classmates but did not drive a significant increase in our class treasury. At year end, the class treasury is $10, 265, an increase of $860 over 2008. This figure does not include any donations made to the University and earmarked for our class so I am still hopeful that we will soon reach $12,000 which will allow us to have a $ 1,000 scholarship for which legacy ’76 sons and daughters could compete. To achieve this goal, it is important to note that no operating / food costs were deducted from the football package donations. And, I remain committed to having $15,000 for class projects and events by our 2011 reunion. You can help with this effort. You can earmark up to half of your annual general donation or give any amount directly to the Class of 1976 by indicating Class of 1976 on your check. Adding the class account number will direct it into our account: Class of 1976 Operating Fund Account #800336-59005-97. For tracking purposes (because sometimes monies don’t end up where they should), should you decide to donate to this account, just send an email to me with the date of your gift so I can follow re: the number of donations on periodic basis. October: We held our first class giveback event hammering nails for Habitat for Humanity of St. Jospeh County on the Friday prior to the Washington game. Our intent is to make an annual event of a class day of service prior to the Fall mini-reunion. November: The class sponsored study break packages for the freshmen who are legacy children. The plan continues to sponsor the Fall break for incoming Freshmen and the Spring Break for outgoing Seniors. And, yes, we still have classmates who have incoming freshmen!
Hopefully, you will agree that 2009 was chock full of events and opportunities to stay connected, involved and Irish! A special thanks to the following classmates for your contributions to these activities! I am extremely grateful to Frank Fransioli, Wendy Duffey, Dan Reagan, Pat Novitski, Steve Klug, Tom Paulius, and John Carrico for their help and support and to those individuals who bought mini-reunion packages.
